Advice Needed?

I’m reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy this weekend. I’ve started it a few times and have yet to make it more than a quarter of the way through. It’s bleak, violent, and dark– BUT I really want to dislodge it from my TBR. I found some posts on the Internet calling the Judge the best character in literature which have peaked my interest again. So, again, I’m going to try reading it. Wish me luck!

Tonight, though, I need to finish the last few chapters of J.G. Ballard’s Super-Cannes. Maybe this will prove a good jumping off point for a McCarthy book: from one absurdity to another.

Most important: If I bury my nose in a book all weekend, then I’ll be too busy to watch election coverage. 😛

Happy Friday!

  1. Blood Meridian is brilliant but the violence makes it tough to get through. Cormac McCarthy is one of my favorite writers and I still haven’t managed to finish reading this! Good luck 🙂

    • Just finished though I admit skimming a bit in the middle. I think I’d put it as my least favorite of his so far. Not sure why I thought I could get through it in a weekend — it was even more ugly than expected.

The next McCarthy I pick up will probably be All the Pretty Horses. I don’t know the first thing about it, but there’s a good chance it’ll be cheery by comparison. 🙂

      • Yeah, it’s a hard one for most people to handle. He’s one of my favorite authors but even I didn’t like this one because of the over the top violence.
Haha, hopefully the name is a sign that the story will be pleasant! I have that book also, but have yet to read it.
